 Content of Taxim 1gm
Taxim 1g injection contains generic medicine of cefotaxim.Cefotaxime  is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic.  It has broad spectrum activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, like other third-generation cephalosporins.This drug is very effective for people who are resistant to penicillin.

It generally works against most Gram-negative bacteria, except for Pseudomonas. It is also effective against most Gram-positive cocci except for Enterococcus. It is active against penicillin-resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae. It has modest activity against the anaerobic Bacteroides fragilis. In the case meningitis, cefotaxime crosses the blood–brain barrier  effectivily.

Main Side Effects of taxim injection are,

  • Gastrointestinal disturbance such as Diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
  •  Thrombocytopenia and leukopenia.

Dosage and Administration
  • Route of administration :Intravenous administration only.
  • Dosage:The maximum daily dosage should not exceed 12 grams.
 Uncomplicated infections-1 gram every 12 hours
 Moderate to severe infections-1-2 grams every 8 hours
 Infections commonly needing antibiotics in higher dosage (e.g., septicemia)-2 grams every 6-8 hours
Life-threatening infections-2 grams every 4 hours
Postoperative  dose is a single 1 gram IV administered 30 to 90 minutes prior to start of surgery.
Pediatric Dose :For body weights less than 50 kg, the recommended daily dose is 50 to 180 mg/kg body weight divided into four to six equal doses.  If body weights 50 kg or more, the usual adult dosage should be used.

FDA Pregnancy of Taxim 1 gm injection 
 Taxim injection falls under Category B of US FDA .Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
