Rantac tablet is used for the treatment of,
- Stomach and intestines ulcers.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and erosive esophagitis(stomach and throat (esophagus) problems caused by too much stomach acid secretions)
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease-GERD(a backward flow of stomach acid into the esophagus)
- Skin disease such as hives.
- Used to relieve stomach irritation and ulceration caused by certain painkillers such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Side Effects of Rantac Tablet
Common side effects are,
- Headache, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting, stomach pain. dizziness.
- Minor increases in serum transaminases, which may be important in patients with liver disease.
Contact your doctor if any of the following symptoms occur,
- Hypersensitivity reactions included rash, urticaria, bronchospasm, fever, eosinophilia, angioneurotic edema, acute eosinophilic pneumonia and anaphylaxis.
Dosage of Rantac Tablet
- Adult Dose for Duodenal Ulcer: 150 mg 2 times a day, or 300 mg once a day after the evening meal or at bedtime.
- Adult Dose for Erosive Esophagitis:Initial: 150 mg 4 times a day.Maintenance: 150 mg twice daily.
- Adult Dose for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 150 mg 2 times a day initially. Adjust dose to control gastric acid secretion. Doses up to 6 g per day have been used.
- Adult Dose for Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions: 150 mg 2 times a day initially.
- Adult Dose for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: 150 mg twice daily.
- Adult Dose for Gastric Ulcer: 150 mg twice a day.
FDA pregnancy of Rantac Tablet
Rantac tablet falls under the category B of US FDA. Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of fetal harm. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Ranitidine is known to cross the placenta.
