Content of Digox tablet 0.25 mg

Digox tablet contains Digoxin .Digoxin is a cardiac glycoside.And also known as cardiotonic,increases the strength of cardiac muscle contractions and increases cardiac output.In mild heart failure ,digoxin inhibits the sympathetic nervous system and produces arterial vasodilation.It produces symptomatic improvement,increases exercise tolerance and reduces hospitalization,but it does not reduce mortality.

 Uses of Digox tablet 0.25 mg

  • Supraventricular arrhythmias
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Emergency heart failure

 Contraindications of Digox tablet 0.25 mg

  • Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
  • Ventricular tachycardia
  • Hypokalaemia
  • Digitalis toxicity
  • Arrhythmias
  • Second degree atrioventricular block
  • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (A syndrome in which an extra electrical pathway in the heart causes a rapid heartbeat)

Precautions of Digox tablet 0.25 mg

  • Recent myocardial infraction
  • Sick sinus syndrome
  • Severe pulmonary disease
  • Thyroid disease
  • Congestive cardiac myopathy
  • Hypercalcaemia
  • Aortic valve disease
  • Heart block
  • Cardiac dysrrythmias
  • Elderly (reduce dose)
  • Renal impairment
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Usually associated with excessive dosage and include
  • Anorexia
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Visual disturbances
  • Head ache
  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Confusion
  • Delirium
  • Hallucinations
  • Depression
  • Arrhythmias
  • Heart block
  • Skin rashes
  • Intestinal ischemia
  • Gynaecomastia on long term use
  • Thrombocytopenia reported
  • Sinus bradycardia
  • Apathy
  • Psychosis
